1999 Yering Station Pinot Noir, Yarra Valley

Appearance: light purple red with orange tinge.

Nose: lots of truffles and mushrooms, some red cherry fruit, some spice (white pepper) and mellowed oak.

Palate: decaying fruit, lovely acidity and alcohol here, low to medium softened tannins and good length.

Conclusion: this was really good, even although 1999 was not supposed to be a great year in the Yarra Valley. Certainly drinking well, but with some age ahead. Decent mid-range Australian Pinot Noir.

Rating: 17/20
