WSET Advanced Course: Beijing MAY

We are happy to offer the WSET Advanced Course this MAY in Beijing with the highest-qualified wine educators in China (full details below).

The WSET Advanced Course broadens and builds on the knowledge gained from Intermediate Level. Dragon Phoenix is also uniquely placed to offer a choice of the Advanced Exam (which includes a written exam and is a pre-requisite for the Diploma) or the International Higher Exam (multiple choice only). Both are WSET Level 3.

  • We teach this course over 35+ hours of classtime, with extra opportunites for exam-techinque coaching as well to help you achieve best results!
  • This ensures that our students benefit from full coverage of all the units as well as blind-tasting over 80 different wines sourced from all over Beijing and the world!
  • Our students usually achieve Merit or Distinction, both at this level and WSET Levels 1 and 2.

The Advanced Level involves two basic parts:

Unit One - Wines and Spirits of the World which includes wine production and wine producing areas of the world, as well as Sparkling wines, Fortified Wines and Spirits.

Unit Two - Tasting and Evaluating Wines of the World which includes full work on the Systematic Approach to Tasting as well as how to blind taste wines and evaluate the quality, style and price. We taste over 80 different wines blind!

The full course (including tasting over 17,000RMB worth of wines) is 10,500RMB (with the International Higher offered at 10,000RMB) which includes all wines, tuition, study pack, exam fees, a set of ISOs glasses, Dragon Phoenix glass-carrying bag and much, much more!

WSET Intermediate: Shanghai APRIL

Following on from our highly successful WSET Advanced course in Shanghai last October - and the Dragon Phoenix Australia World Class seminars in Shanghai in January - we are delighted to offer an intensive WSET Intermediate programme for the benefit of Shanghai wine lovers and trade (full details below).

The WSET Intermediate Course offers a 3 day-exploration of the global world of wine and spirits - we at Dragon Phoenix are proud to offer top-level teaching of this course in April, with instructors including Edward Ragg (Certified Specialist in Wine and a Member of the Society of Wine Educators) and Fongyee Walker (China’s only Master of Wine candidate).

WSET Level 2 Intermediate offers broad coverage of all product categories in the field of alcoholic drinks, together with coverage of basic tasting technique (based on the WSET Systematic Approach to Tasting).

The course is suitable for those with a small amount of previous experience with wine. Student numbers are limited (5 to 12) to ensure optimum teaching exposure.

Foundation Course

This qualification gives you an introduction to major wine styles and grape varieties. You will also learn systematic wine tasting techniques and the basics of wine and food matching –with a chance to do some food and wine matching of your own!
You will get your certification for this internationally recognized qualification by passing a simple multiple-choice exam. This course is runs for 8 hours and costs 1,900RMB (including wines, materials, examination fee). For more information, contact info@longfengwines.com

Intermediate

This qualification offers broad coverage of all product categories in the field of alcoholic drinks, together with basic tasting technique. It is suitable for those with a small amount of previous experience with wine.

  • How wine is made and other factors influencing the style of wine
  • Key white and black grape varieties

  • Sparkling wines, sweet wines and fortified wines
  • Spirits and liqueurs
  • Label terminology
  • Food and wine matching

Advanced Course
The Advanced course broadens and builds on the knowledge gained from the Intermediate Level. It is also a pre-requisite for moving onto the Diploma. The Advanced requires previous good knowledge of wine and spirits and also requires study outside of classroom hours to ensure a good grade.
Those who successfully pass the written exam (multiple choice and written answers) and the tasting exam (one wine) will be entitle to use the WSET Advanced logo.

Wines of France: An Introduction

In this class, you will discover the 5 most important and classic wine regions in France though tasting their wines and hearing about their many fascinating stories. We will be tasting a representative wine (or two!) from each of these regions and delving into why these areas have become so famous and celebrated in the world of wine. Basic Grape Varieties I and II

A tutored introduction to tasting the major grape varieties and their expressions. Sort out your Sauvignon Blanc from your Cabernet Sauvignons! Through tasting, we will explore the nature of each type of grape, where they come from and how they behave in different climates.
