Dragon Phoenix Fine Wine Consulting is run by Fongyee Walker and Edward Ragg (see bios below).
Aims and Background
Our aim is to bring top quality wine consultancy services to the China market.
As Beijing-based consultants we are ideally located to provide local and national advice for the China trade as well as international wine companies and regional trade bodies.
Specialists in wine education and professional tasting since 1999, we also combine over ten years of experience in higher education having taught at both Cambridge and Tsinghua Universities.
BRIEF BIOS
is mainland China's only Master of Wine (MW) candidate. Having passed her MW Theory examinations in 2010, she is continuing her studies in 2011-12. Fongyee is also:
- Beijing’s leading Certified Educator and Examiner for the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET)
- A WSET Level 4 Diploma holder and AIWS (Member of the Institute of Wines & Spirits)
- A translation consultant for the Mandarin Chinese WSET Foundation Level 1 and Intermediate Level 2 courses and a specialist in wine translation (English-Chinese)
- A popular wine presenter and public speaker working with regional wine trade bodies, international wineries and corporate clients
- A wine judge with experience judging at London’s International Wine Challenge, the Hong Kong International Wine and Spirits Competition, the Royal Melbourne Wine Show, the China Wine Challenge and Yantai International Wine Challenge
- A wine writer, co-author (with Edward Ragg) of the Sinophile wine column for The World of Fine Wine Magazine and a contributor to Tong Magazine, The Drinks Business, The Financial Times’s FT Rui, financial newspaper Caijing Ribao, Drink Magazine (Shanghai) and Fine Wine & Liquor, among other publications.
- Co-author (with Ragg) of The Cambridge University Guide to Blind Wine Tasting (2004, rev. 2006, rev. 2010)
- A blind-tasting panellist for La Revue du Vin (Chinese edition), Food & Wine Magazine China and Wine in China Magazine
- An expert contributor to new wine site What Wine
- A former Captain of the Cambridge University Varsity Wine Tasting Team and ‘Top Taster’ in the 2004 Oxford-Cambridge Wine Tasting Match
- A former lecturer in Classical Chinese Literature at Cambridge University and Foreign Expert at Tsinghua University.

is an Associate Professor in the Department of Foreign Langugages & Literatures at Tsinghua University where he teaches literature in English and has established the university's first official wine course (with plans to found the Tsinghua University Wine Club in 2012) . Edward is also:
- a former Captain and Coach of the Cambridge University Varsity Wine Tasting Team and a past College Supervisor at Cambridge
- a former Member of the Society of Wine Educators (SWE) and currently completing his WSET Diploma and SWE Certified Wine Educator qualifications
- a WSET Advanced Certificate, SWE Certified Specialist in Wine and Court of Master Sommeliers Introductory Certificate holder
- A writer on wine, co-author (with Fongyee Walker) of the Sinophile wine column for The World of Fine Wine Magazine and a contributor to Decanter Magazine, Decanter.com, Tong Magazine, La Revue du Vin de France (China edition), trade publications such as The Drinks Business, Harpers Wine and Spirit and Drink Magazine (Shanghai), as well as The Robb Report (China), Chinese financial newspaper Caijing Ribao, The Financial Times’s FT Rui and other publications

- A professional writer, publishing poetry and criticism in international publications, including two books on the work of American poet and wine tippler Wallace Stevens
- Brother to Michael Ragg, who co-founded Burgundy negociant Mischief & Mayhem with Michael Twelftree of Two Hands Wines. M&M, based in Aloxe-Corton, is operated by Michael and his wife Fiona.
